By investing in the SAF programme, the Bansard International Group wishes to continue to innovate and ensure a cleaner future for air transport. This commitment has a twofold benefit: on the one hand, it supports AF KLM Martinair Cargo and its programme to reduce CO2 emissions, and on the other hand, it will benefit all the group's customers who use its air transport solutions.

WHAT DOES SAF MEAN?

SAF stands for "Sustainable Aviation Fuel" and is a cleaner substitute for conventional aviation fuel. This alternative fuel represents a solution that has been developed to reduce the environmental impact of aviation.

ORIGIN AND BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAMME

The aviation sector currently accounts for 2-3% of global man-made CO2 emissions. SAF represents an alternative fuel for aviation and is currently the only viable alternative to liquid fossil fuels to power commercial aircraft.

The world's first commercial flight on SAF was made by KLM in 2011, followed by Air France in the same year. So far, there are only a few facilities in the world that produce SAF and it is still very expensive. That is why KLM, together with its partners, is building a fully dedicated plant to produce its own SAF, scheduled to open in 2023 in the north of the Netherlands. In France, plans are underway to build several production plants in the coming years.

SAF reduces CO2 emissions by up to 85% compared to conventional paraffin. This reduction occurs throughout the life cycle of the production and use of sustainable jet fuel compared to fossil fuel.

MANAGEMENT'S COMMITMENT TO CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

This action completes the various initiatives taken in favour of more responsible logistics: ISO 14001 certification, 4PL label, investment in new P400 trailers, etc.
